Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association
The Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association is a vital and enthusiastic partner of the College of Law. The Association’s Trustees and members make substantial contributions to the academic and social life of the law school. On behalf of our students, CMLAA sponsors a mentoring program that matches first-year law students with mentor-lawyers, provides student scholarships, and supports alumni/ae reunions locally and across the country. On behalf of the law school and its 10,000 living graduates, the CMLAA sponsors a series of Continuing Legal Education programs throughout the year, participates fully in fund-raising events, publishes an award-winning alumni magazine, Law Notes, and each year honors outstanding graduates at its Annual Recognition Luncheon. Mary McKenna, CMLAA’s Executive Director, works closely with the Dean in recruitment efforts, development planning and placement activities.
SPOTLIGHT ON OUR ALUMNI: CMLAA TRUSTEE GREGORY F. CLIFFORD '80
Gregory F. Clifford is Chief Magistrate of the Cleveland Municipal Court. In this position he manages a staff of 19 magistrates and 10 supportive staff persons who handle small claims, traffic, misdemeanor, and civil cases, legal research, and recommendations for the 12 judges of the Court. Mr. Clifford is also a course planner and faculty member for the Ohio Judicial College.
In addition to serving as Immediate Past President/Chairman of the Board of Directors for 100 Black Men of Greater Cleveland, Inc., Mr. Clifford is a mentor and role model for promising youth and young adults, and has held numerous leadership positions in Norman S. Minor Bar Association, Cuyahoga County Bar Association, Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association, Glenville Alumni Association, Catholic Charities, Substance Abuse Initiative of Greater Cleveland, Cleveland Branch NAACP, and East Cleveland Public Library.
Mr. Clifford has been honored with the Most Treasured Volunteer Award from the Federation of Community Planning, the Distinguished Alumni Award for Civic Involvement from Cleveland State University, the Archbishop James P. Lyke African American Male Image Award from the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver, the Trustee Award of Achievement from the Ohio Library Council, and is featured in Who’s Who In Black Cleveland.
A native Clevelander, Clifford is the devoted husband of Karen, a retired school teacher, and the proud father of David and Tia.
