Cleveland-Marshall College of Law

In Memoriam

Tim Russert, the law school’s 1976 alumnus, died unexpectedly on June 13. The moderator of “Meet the Press” and Senior Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief of NBC News, Tim was surely the law school’s most notable, most visible graduate. He has also been one of its most loyal. He twice delivered our commencement addresses, in 1994 and in 2007, when the University awarded him an honorary doctor of laws degree. In 2004, the Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association honored him as its Distinguished Alumnus during the annual Law Alumni Recognition Luncheon. Tim served on the College of Law's National Advisory Council and for many years co-chaired the law school’s annual fund drive. He visited the law school several times in recent years and spoke to our students with enthusiasm and gratitude about the legal training he received here. He often remarked that law had made him a better, more scrupulous journalist. We will miss his extraordinary gifts in our school and in our country.
