The Office of Career Planning

Individual counseling is available from the OCP professional staff on a drop-in or appointment basis. The professionals in the office have worked in private practice for many years and can help you with

  • decisions regarding employment;
  • courses to help you achieve your ultimate career goal;
  • questions to ask at a job interview or even what shoes to wear.

LRAPs (Loan Repayment Assistance Programs) are becoming a more prevalent way to repay some educational debt. Cleveland-Marshall has an LRAP for graduates who go into public interest law. The description and materials are available here.

The federal government has created a program to help their employees repay education loans. You may find more information at www.opm.gov/oca/PAY/StudentLoan/

Some states have LRAPs for public interest lawyers working in that state. The American Bar Association maintains a list of such states at www.abanet.org/legalservices/sclaid/lrap/statelraps.html/

Other help may be available about "Financing Your Future" from the Equal Justice Works handbook at www.equaljusticeworks.org/node/44.

Resume and Cover Letter Review is a common service provided for students. Contact the OCP to get your resume into "legal" order as well as getting help writing a convincing cover letter. There may be materials in the Handbook that will be helpful
