Urban Development Law Clinic
Some Recent Projects
East 93rd & Folsom Avenue

The UDLC assisted a neighborhood based community organization in purchasing a site which contained several vacant buildings as well as a significant amount of debris that had been dumped on the site by unknown persons. The UDLC assisted their client with cleaning up the site, demolishing the buildings and conducting appropriate environmental surveys and assessments. The buildings on the site were in very poor condition with portions of the roof and walls collapsing. The buildings contained numerous barrels and containers, more than 250 tires and significant amounts of debris. The demolition process took more than three months.

The site is now ready for development.

Various Vacant & Abandoned Buildings Throughout Cleveland
The UDLC represents many community development corporations in nuisance abatement actions in which the community groups seek to rid their neighborhoods of blighted and abandoned property. The UDLC files nuisance abatement actions in the Housing Division of the Cleveland Municipal Court in which the owner of the property is given an opportunity to abate the nuisance. If the owner does not act, the Court may, inappropriate instances, appoint one of our clients to abate the nuisance. The type of abatement conducted varies with the economic feasibility of rehabilitation. Some properties are rehabilitated by the Clinic’s clients or other interested parties.

The house shown in these photos is located on East 75th Street in Cleveland and was rehabilitated by the mortgage holder.
Other properties are demolished because rehabilitation is not economically feasible

Demolition of this property was completed on June 20, 2007.
