Journal of Law and Health
Associate Status
In order to be eligible for invitation to join the Journal as an Associate, a student shall:
- be enrolled as a student at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law;
- have at least two semesters remaining, excluding summer terms, prior to the student's anticipated date of graduation; (see J.D./M.B.A., J.D./Urban invitation requirements exceptions)
- have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on the 4.0 point scale; and
- qualify for membership by one of the two methods detailed below. Transfer students: in the case of a transfer student, conform to the general requirements for successfully competing in the Summer Writing Competition.
Invitation by Class Rank:
- At the end of each summer, the Board of Editors shall issue invitations to join the Journal as Associate members to the top twenty percent (20%) of each class conforming to the eligibility requirements set forth above.
- Full time students must have completed at least twenty-four (24) semester hours of the first year curriculum. These classes shall have been completed by the end of the spring semester of the student's first year of attendance at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
- Part-time students must have completed at least sixteen (16) semester hours of part-time first year curriculum. If the candidate so chooses he or she may decline to accept membership offered at the end of the student's first year or defer membership to the next year. Deferments are granted at the sole discretion of the Editor(s)-in-Chief of the year that invitation is extended. A deferment must be requested in writing during the first four weeks of the fall semester following the invitation.
- JD/MBA or MPA Candidates. Invitations to join the Journal shall be issued to JD/MBA/MPA candidates upon completion of twenty-four (24) semester hours of the law school classes. If the candidate will be taking exclusively business classses the academic year immediately following the summer during which the invitation is issued, the candidate may defer membership for one academic year provided he or she will have at least three (3) semesters of law school remaining. A deferment must be requested in writing during the first four weeks of the fall semester following the invitation.
- A student's status as full or part-time shall be determined by the criteria applied by the administration of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
Invitation(s) through Summer Writing Competition:
- Invitations shall be made to students who submit successful entries to the Summer Writing Competition and who meet the eligibility requirements set out above.
