Top Ten Technology Tips

Wireless Network

CSU's wireless network is called WoWnet (WithoutWires network). IS&T provides more information about compatible cards. You can buy a wireless adapter card and setup CD for $115 from the CSU Bookstore. Each CSU faculty, staff and student has an account to access WoWnet. Once you have installed your wireless card, you will need to login to your account with your username (your CSU ID number) and your password (same as your CampusNet password). If you have any problems with your wireless card, a lab assistant in the Computer Lab can assist you.

Webmail

You can access your College of Law email account through Webmail. The system may prompt you regarding the acceptance of a certificate. Select the option to permanently accept the certificate so you will not be bothered with this alert window again. The system will then ask you to log in. Enter the “User Name” and “Password” that you use in the Law Library Computer Llab.

Forwarding Your Campus Email to Your Law Email

All College of Law faculty, staff, and students have both a CSU campus email and a Law email account. You will want to have your campus email forwarded to you Law email so you do not miss important messages such as Library overdue notices. To forward your CSU campus email to your law email, login to CampusNet. Under the "Personal" tab, go to email and select "Forward." That's where you enter your Law email address.

CALI

CALI -- The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction -- is a consortium of law schools that researches and develops computer-mediated legal instruction. The CALI Library of Lessons includes over 600 lessons covering over 30 legal education subject areas. Designed to augment traditional law school instruction, and written by law faculty and librarians, these lessons are reviewed and revised on a regular basis. If you are a Cleveland-Marshall College of Law student, click here for further instructions.

Saving Documents to Your H: Drive in the Law Library Computer Lab

Each Law student has space available on the H drive of the Law Library server. Each student’s H drive is visible only to that student. We strongly recommend using this drive for saving documents. When you save to the H drive, your documents are automatically backed up on a weekly basis. You can only access your H drive from the Law Library Computer Lab. If you want to work on documents stored on the H drive outside the Computer Lab, we recommend that you use a USB flash drive or email the documents to yourself.

Securing Your Lab Account

Before you leave the Computer Lab, make sure to log out of your account. End whatever programs you were using on the computer. Then go to the “Start” button and select “Log Off.” A window will open up with the phrase "Are you sure you want to log off?" Select "Log Off" and you are done. Leaving your account open and unattended is an invitation for trouble. Be safe and logout.

Printing in the Lab -- I have run out of pages, what do I do?

Your first 800 pages are free. When your first 800 pages run out, you can purchase additional pages (using a personal check or money order) in $5.00 minimum increments, not to exceed $20.00. The cost is $.05 per page, so 100 pages cost $5.00. Buy additional pages at the Information Services desk. Your printouts are delivered to the two networked laser printers located in the Computer Lab. There is also one stand-alone printer where you can use high quality paper for resumes and cover letters.

LexisNexis and Westlaw

You will receive your LexisNexis and Westlaw passwords at Orientation. You'll need to register your password with each database. Remember that you can use these databases only for school-related research purposes. Printing from LexisNexis and Westlaw is free. Please limit your print jobs to 200 pages per day. If you have any questions, contact Laura Ray.

Computer Viruses

Almost all of the computer viruses that you will be exposed to will arrive in the form of files attached to your incoming email. The golden rule is, "Don't open any attachments that you are not expecting to receive, or that are not attached to personalized email explaining what the attachment is, and why it is being sent to you." If you believe that you have discovered a computer virus, send an email to the Automation department.

CSU Network

Throughout the Base, Atrium, and Second Levels of the Law Library, connect to CSU’s network at ports with a green “live” sticker.

Ask for Assistance

The technology staff is here to help you. During posted hours, there is a lab assistant stationed in the Lab. If a lab assistant is not available, please knock on the Automation staff's door (LL112). You may also contact them at (216) 523-7555 or send them an email.
