The Suffolk University Law Review, in collaboration with the school's Clinical Programs and the Victim Rights Law Center, will present an April 16, 2004, a symposium entitled, "Beyond Prosecution: Sexual Assault Victims: Rights in Theory and Practice." This one-day symposium seeks to bring together scholars and practitioners interested in discussing these and other issues in an attempt to further understand the role of sexual assault victims in the modern legal landscape. 1st Global Conference - Evil, Law and the State is an inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary conference that will explore issues surrounding evil and law, with a focus on state power and violence. Papers, reports, work-in-progress and workshops are invited on issues related to any of the following themes: when and why is law evil or a source of evil?; state violence and coercion; justifications for punishment, including capital punishment; whether and under what circumstances the adversary or inquisitorial models of legal process generate, tolerate, or allow evil outcomes; issues of distributive justice in law, including distributing the costs of legal error; the intersection of law with issues of choice, responsibility, and diminished responsibility; state responsibility for terrorism, war, intervention, ethnic cleansing, and other problems of international law and international relations. Papers will be considered on any related theme. Abstracts should be submitted to both the organizing chairs and must arrive no later than Friday, March 19, 2004. The Urban Lawyer law journal invites submissions of unsolicited manuscripts from faculty, judges, and lawyers. The Urban Lawyer concentrates on legal issues important to state and local government. Articles in recent years have examined everything from homeland security to municipal finance, from police misconduct to land-use planning. The Urban Lawyer, published by the ABA’s Section on State and Local Government Law in cooperation with the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law, maintains a subscription base of over 6,000. Pierce Law Review is currently soliciting papers for its upcoming Symposium on Tax Simplification. The Symposium will deal with accessibility, restructuring, and proposals for change to the current federal system of taxation. JURIST's Paper Chase is a continually-updated legal news weblog edited at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law by Professor Bernard Hibbitts and his volunteer staff of over 30 law student anchors and beat reporters. They continually comb the Internet every weekday looking for the latest legal stories, filter them, summarize them, and add value to them with online primary and secondary sources.
"Most-Cited Legal Periodicals: U.S. and selected non-U.S." has been updated. The previous listing showed citations from articles/cases for 1995-2002, the listing for 1996-2003 (with a cut-off date of October 31) has been added. Legal periodicals published in the U.S., of an academic nature, are included in this study, also some non-U.S. legal periodicals are included (usually English language). Generally, criminology journals, bar journals, newsletters and legal newspapers/magazines are not included in this study. Legal periodicals which appear to have ceased publication (even though they were published during a part of the survey period) are not included. The National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s (NITA) mission is to provide training in legal advocacy skills and techniques for resolving legal disputes and to foster professionally responsible behavior emphasizing ethics, candor, civility, and judicial economy. To achieve its mission, NITA uses various teaching methods, programs, faculty, and materials. They have a web site listing CLE courses they offer and a listing of the types of reference books, case files, and audio/video materials they have available, as well, as information about NITA.
The American Association of Law Schools is a non-profit association of 164 law schools. The purpose of the association is "the improvement of the legal profession through legal education." It serves as the learned society for law teachers and is legal education's principal representative to the federal government and to other national higher education organizations and learned societies. The AALS holds an Annual Meeting every year in January and five or six workshops and conferences throughout the year. The AALS publishes a Directory of Law Teachers and a quarterly newsletter, as well as other publications. Much of the learned society activities are done by the 78 AALS Sections, which plan programs at the Annual Meetings and publish newsletters throughout the year.

The American Law Institute-American Bar Association Committee on Continuing Professional Education, ALI-ABA, providers of continuing legal education in the United States since 1947, offers members of the profession a comprehensive curriculum of post-admission legal education -- live courses, course materials, video and audio tapes, satellite broadcasts, books, computer disks, and magazines, etc.
The Ohio CLE Institute, a non-profit organization, was created as a tripartite entity in 1960 by The Ohio State University, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Foundation "in furthering a joint program of legal research and continuing legal education with the College of Law." The mission statement for the Institute includes: to provide quality educational programs and services to Ohio attorneys, judges and related professionals at the lowest practical cost.
JURIST: “The Law Professors’ Network," collects law professors' web based home pages, course pages, resource pages and online articles (both "pre prints" and "post prints") and for the first time makes them conveniently accessible to other law professors, lawyers, and law students, as well as to the public at large. JURIST also offers listings for the Web sites of major professional and legal associations, directories of law review and law school home pages, pointers to law listservs, access to a law dedicated search engine, direct email connections to other legal academics in the US and abroad. JURIST is continually under development, so updated information and suggestions for new links are welcome. Bernard Hibbitts is the web master for JURIST.
