Microform & Audiovisual Services

The Law Library has a collection of audiovisual and microform resources on the Base Level. The Microform Area is just west of the Casual Reading Area, on the other side of the Casual Reading Area glass wall. Most audiovisual materials are shelved in the Casual Reading Area. Some audiovisual materials are also on Reserve. SCHOLAR and the Keyword and Subject Searchable Audio-Visual Collection Catalog provide location information and call numbers for audiovisual materials. SCHOLAR and the Microform Title and Location List provide specific location information for microform materials. The Microform Title and Location List is kept in the Microform Area.

Microform reader-printers are available also available in the Microform Area. Copies made on microform reader/printers cost $.10 each whether made with a Law Library copy card or dimes. Please note that the machines that accept the coins do not give change. The dollar change machine across from the Information Services desk dispenses dimes.

The microform collection is extensive, but microform materials do not circulate. The scope of microform materials includes: complete United States Supreme Court Records and Briefs from 1832; complete back run of the Congressional Record v.1(43rd Cong. 1873/74)-v.122 (94th Cong. 1976) & Congressional Record v.123 (95th Cong. 1977)-, Federal Register v.1(1936)-v.58 p.35356 (1993) & Federal Register v.58 p.35357 (1993)-, and Code of Federal Regulations 1939-1976 and Code of Federal Regulations 1977-; selected state court reports; Ohio appellate decisions on fiche (1981-1992); U.S. government documents; legal newspapers, CIS Congressional legislative history documents; the U.S. Serial Set; and selected Law Library Microform Consortium publications.

Audiovisual materials include the a wide assortment of American Law Institute/American Bar Association CLE seminars, trial advocacy titles, documentaries, and law-related popular titles.  Most of the audiovisual materials circulate for one week.  Headphones as well as audiocassette players may be "checked out" from the Information Services Desk for use in the Law Library. VHS 1/2" videocassette and DVD players are available in the small AV Viewing Room (LL123). U-Matic 3/4" videocassette players are available upon request.
