Introduction
Criminal law primarilly concerns the purposes of punishment and general principles of criminal responsibility. Other topics include attempts; parties; conspiracy; specific crimes against the person, the habitation, and property; causation and self-defense; burden of proof and presumptions; defenses available to the accused; and limitations of the criminal law. Criminal Procedure concerns the rules governing the proceedings by which criminal law is enforced, and focuses on police investigation techniques - such as searches, interrogations, undercover activities, electronic eavesdropping, and lineups - as well as constitutional limitations on these practices flowing from the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 14th Amendments. Other topics include the right to counsel, the entrapment defense, bail, and plea bargaining. If you're a student who's trying to pick a topic in criminal law or criminal procedure for a note or article, check out Lawtopic.com and review its Criminal Law and Procedure section. Also, consider reviewing current issues and hot topics on news Web sites such as American Lawyer Media's American Lawyer, Law.Com, National Law Journal, and New York Law Journal, as well as Lawyers Weekly.
