Introduction
Issues covered in Land Use Control ( LAW 608) "include the nature and purpose of zoning; comparison with other systems of land use control; constitutional bases and limitations; zoning legislation and regulations; urban redevelopment; platting and planning; and variances and spot zoning." While the primary focus of this guide is to support student and faculty research related to this course, it is hoped that these resources will also be of value to others interested in land use, real estate, development, and/or local government matters.
For background information concerning basic Property Law concepts, please see the Property Law Resource Guide.
This selective guide highlights major electronic and print resources available to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs students researching issues in Land Use, Planning, and Zoning Law.
Please contact your Law Library Research Services librarians during their regularly scheduled hours, or via email to research.services@law.csuohio.edu for assistance in suggesting research strategies, and/or locating/using these or other resources to meet your needs.
Legislative Sources
Ohio:
The Ohio Revised Code's statutes (laws) regarding Planning and Zoning for various forms of Ohio local government may be found in Title 3 (Counties), Title 5 (Townships) and Title 7 (Municipalities). Depending on your research issue, there may be other sections of the Code that you may need to check as well - for example: Title 53 contains the laws passed by the Ohio General Assembly on Real Property. So, start with the Index to the ORC, and then go to the Title and section. Note if there are definitions related to the code provisions, and check annotations and supplementation.
Ohio Revised Code (LAWriter - from the State of Ohio website) Unannotated
For annotated versions of the ORC, see the Code from either of the 2 major publishers of the Code:

Journal Articles and Current Awareness Services
See Finding Articles in Law Reviews, Journals and Other Legal Periodicals for an explanation of the legal periodical indexes and databases available to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law students and the CSU community.
_______________________
Consider starting with an Index:
Because there are likely to be pertinent articles in subject-specific as well as general law reviews, you are strongly encouraged to utilize indexes to identify articles, and then go to the full text of the articles. There are two major indexes you will want to check, under such topics as Land use, Land use planning, Land trusts, Eminent domain, and Zoning. Because there are different editorial staffs at the two publications, more specific topics may be different. Each index also includes a listing of articles by name of court decision.
Current Law Index / Information Access, 1980 - Reference Area K 33 .C87 (LexisNexis ) (Westlaw - LRI)
