American Legal Ethics Library
  at Cornell University's Legal Information Institute, contains codes and rules setting standards for the professional conduct of lawyers and commentary on the law governing lawyers, organized on a state by state basis.

Ohio Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism:  See Gov. Bar. Rule XV. - Commission on Professionalism ; Professionalism CLE Guidelines ; Statement on Professionalism ; Professional Ideals for Ohio Lawyers and Judges

Ohio Supreme Court Task Force on the Rules of Professional Conduct . Report of the Task Force, October 2005 includes cross reference tables from the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct to the Code of Professional Responsibility and vice versa.


Ohio Supreme Court Board of Commissioners on the Unauthorized Practice of Law : The Board of Commissioners on the Unauthorized Practice of Law of the Supreme Court of Ohio is established by Rule VII of the Supreme Court Rules for the Government of the Bar of Ohio and consists of seven members who are appointed to a three-year term by the Supreme Court. The Board conducts hearings, preserves the record, and makes findings and recommendations to the Supreme Court in cases involving the alleged unauthorized practice of law. The Board is also authorized to issue informal nonbinding advisory opinions on matters concerning the unauthorized practice of law.

Ohio Supreme Court Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline : The Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline is a twenty-eight member commission appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court. The Board's Duties are as follows: issuing final recommendations to the Supreme Court on formal disciplinary charges against Ohio's lawyers and judges; monitoring and assisting the certified grievance committees in the regulation of the legal profession; and issuing advisory ethics opinions . In addition to the duties required by the Ohio constitution and Gov.Bar R.V, the Board serves as a facilitator and resource for upholding the highest principles of the legal profession. It is dedicated to furthering the goals of self-regulation of the bench and bar; enhancing the public's access to information and participation in the Supreme Court's regulation of the legal profession and the judiciary; and to assisting and encouraging Ohio attorneys and judges through advice, guidance and education, to observe the standards of professional responsibility so as to prevent ethical abuses and attendant harm to Ohio's citizens and its system of justice.

Ohio Ethics Commission Web Site   Another Ohio source for ethics information, the Ohio Ethics Commission promotes ethics in public service to strengthen the public's confidence that Government business is conducted with impartiality and integrity.  The Commission has jurisdiction over Ohio's public officials and employees at the state and local levels of government, except legislators, judges, and their staffs.  The Commission issues Advisory Opinions and has since 1974.  For the online version of past opinions, see Advisory Opinions Web Site . Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Ethics Inquiry Service : The Ethics Inquiry Service is a benefit that the Cleveland Bar Association provides to its members. The Service, administered through the Ethics and Professionalism Committee, is designed to assist members in making informed ethical decision about their own prospective conduct. The Service is not intended to give legal advice, opinions or conclusions of law. Rather, it is intended to provide our members with ethical information that may factor into their own analysis and independent decision-making process. Members are expected to exercise their own professional judgment in the matter into which they are inquiring.

American Bar Association
The largest voluntary professional association in the world, the ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public. Federal Bar Association
Professional organization for private and government lawyers and judges involved in federal practice. The FBA gives its 16,000 members a chance to meet at regional and national conferences, become active in informed discussion of substantive law issues, assume leadership positions at the local and national level, and network with other professionals in the field of federal law.  The Northern District of Ohio Chapter   has nearly 350 members, drawn from private practice, government departments and agencies, military branches, law schools within the district, and members of the federal judiciary. The Chapter is committed to serving the needs of the federal courts of the Northern District of Ohio and Sixth Circuit, as well as the needs of federal practitioners within the district and circuit.


Ohio State Bar Association
The Ohio State Bar Association, founded in 1880, is a voluntary professional association open to any person who has been admitted to the practice of law. Law school students and paralegals/legal assistants are eligible for membership in the OSBA as associate members. Mission Statement: Our core purpose: To advance the professional interests of members of the Ohio State Bar Association. Our core values : Member satisfaction, professionalism, foresight, and quality services and products. Our goal: To make membership in the Ohio State Bar Association indispensable to Ohio lawyers. The Ohio State Bar Association offers free law student memberships.


Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Founded in 1873, the over 5000-member Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association is a private, non-profit organization which provides a wide variety of membership services and operates as a center for legal professionalism in the region by educating the bar, providing resources that enhance client service and by promoting integrity and ethical behavior among lawyers. The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association was one of the first bar associations in the nation, even predating the Ohio State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and is currently the largest metropolitan provider of legal seminars in Ohio. . The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association offers free law student memberships.


Norman S. Minor Bar Association The largest organization of African-American lawyers in the state of Ohio:  formed in 1980 by the merger of four previously existing African-American professional organizations, to wit: John Harlan Law Club; Cleveland Lawyers' Association; The Black Women Lawyers' Association; and The National Conference of Black Lawyers, Cleveland Chapter. The association boasts a membership of approximately 100 lawyers, engaged in various aspects of legal practice throughout Cuyahoga and surrounding counties, and in all state and federal courts. The Norman S. Minor Bar Association offers student memberships.


Ohio Association for Justice
  Mission Statement: To seek justice for all...To preserve the constitutional right to trial by jury...To champion the cause of those who deserve redress for injury to person or property...To promote the public good through concerted efforts to secure safe products, a safe workplace, a clean environment, and quality health care... To further the rule of law and the civil justice system, and to protect the rights of the accused... To inspire excellence in advocacy through training and education..To encourage cooperation among members... To advance the common law and finest traditions of jurisprudence..To uphold the honor and dignity of the legal profession and the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity. The Ohio Association for Justice offers student memberships.

Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers  The Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (OACDL), founded in 1986, is a professional association with over 525 members around the state. OACDL is an advocate of progressive criminal laws and policies that are consistent with constitutional principles, limited government intrusion into the lives of Americans, and a free society. The Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers offers student memberships.

Ohio Women's Bar Association
Purpose and goals: Fostering communications and networking among women attorneys; Promoting and advancing professional opportunities for women attorneys; Promoting the appointment and selection of women to various federal, state and local positions of influence; Promoting women as leaders; Promoting and providing continuing legal education targeting areas of particular interest to women attorneys; Monitoring and supporting government legislation policies and practices affecting women; Serving as a statewide resource representing perspectives of women in the legal profession  The Ohio Women's Bar Association offers student memberships.
