Introduction
This selective guide highlights and provides an introduction to major electronic and print resources available to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and other Cleveland State University students, faculty, and staff researching various media law related issues. Legislation, administrative agency regulations and decisions, and court decisions, from various levels of government, together form a legal environment that has an impact on those working in different media. Also, for an informed citizenry, the people rely on the media for learning about governmental and legal developments. Therefore, knowing where and how to identify and locate information can also be an important skill to development. Some suggested resources are included toward this end as well.
For resources more generally about administrative law, see the Law Library's Guide:
For resources on other topics, see other Law Library Guides such as:
LexisNexis Academic (an OhioLINK research database) and HeinOnline links are available on the CSU campus, and for CSU students, faculty, and staff off-campus with a Library PIN. Any LexisNexis or Westlaw links require a password issued by those companies to current law students.
Please contact your Law Library Research Services librarians during their regularly scheduled hours, or via email to research.services@law.csuohio.edu for assistance in suggesting research strategies, and/or locating/using these or other resources to meet your needs.

Ohio:
The Ohio Revised Code's statutes (laws) cover many areas of interest to the media. For understanding the various forms of Ohio local government see Title 3 (Counties), Title 5 (Townships) and Title 7 (Municipalities). Depending on your research issue, there may be other sections of the Code that you may need to check as well - for example: In Title 1 (State Government), Chapter 117 (Auditor of State); Title 41 (Labor and Industry.) So, start with the Index to the ORC, and then go to the Title, Chapter, and section. Note if there are definitions related to the code provisions, and check annotations and supplementation.

Consider starting with an Index:
Because there are likely to be pertinent articles in subject-specific as well as general law reviews, you are strongly encouraged to utilize indexes to identify articles, and then go to the full text of the articles. There are two major indexes you will want to check. Because there are different editorial staffs at the two publications, more specific topics may be different. Each index also includes a listing of articles by name of court decision, and by name of statute(law.)
Current Law Index / Information Access, 1980 - Reference Area K 33 .C87 (LexisNexis ) (Westlaw - LRI)
