The Faculty Current Awareness Bulletin is published periodically by the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Library for the faculty and staff of the Law School. The Bulletin contains selected announcements of symposia, conferences, requests for articles and requests for research proposals. Symposia & Conferences
The Center for Genetic Research Research Ethics and Law at Case Western is hosting a conference on "Translating "ELSI": Ethical, Legal and Social Implications of Genomics" on May 1-3, 2008.
The University of Illinois and the American Bankruptcy Institute host a conference on "A Debtor World: An Interdisciplinary Academic Symposium on Debt" on May 2-3, 2008.
The AALS 2008 Conference on Clinical Legal Education will be held in Tucson, Arizona on May 4 - 7, 2008.
The ABA Equal Justice Conference will explore the topic "Pursuing Justice: Balancing Challenges and Opportunities." The conference will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 7-9, 2008.
The 2008 National Charity Law Symposium, presented jointly by the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, will cover charity gaming in Canada and the U.S. It will be held in Toronto, Ont., on May 7, 2008.
The National ADA Symposium & EXPO/Assistive Technology Fair will be held in St. Louis, MO on May 12-14, 2008.
The Third Annual Comparative Law Works in Progress is co-sponsored by the American Society of Comparative Law and three participating law schools. Brian Ray's paper, "Policentrism, Political Mobilization and the Promise of Socioeconomic Rights" will be discussed at the conference, which takes place at the University of Michigan Law School on May 14-16, 2008.
This year's AALS Mid-Year Meeting will be held in Cleveland. The Workshop for Law Librarians will be held June 1-4, 2008, and the Conferences Constitutional Law and Evidence will be held June 3-6, 2008.
The 2008 Health Law Professors Conference is hosted by the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics and the Drexel University College of Law. The conference will take place in Philadelphia, PA on June 5-7, 2008.
The 2008 CALI Conference for Law School Computing will discuss the idea of "Transforming Legal Education" in Baltimore, MD on June 19-21, 2008.
The Center for International Legal Studies hosts the 5th Biennial Symposium on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution in Salzburg, Austria on June 19-22, 2008.
Stanford and Yale Law Schools announce the ninth session of the Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum to be held at Yale Law School on June 20-21, 2008.
The 13th Biennial Conference of the Legal Writing Institute will be hosted by Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis on
July 14 - 17, 2008.
Call for Papers, Proposals & Grants
The University of Akron School of Law will host a symposium on Neuroscience, Law & Government on September 25-26, 2008. They are currently soliciting abstracts for the symposium with a deadline of May 2, 2008.
The International Conference on Business, Law and Technology (IBLT) at the Touro Law Center has issued a call for papers, with a deadline of May 5, 2008. Contributions are invited on topics such as e-government, e-business, sale of goods, bio technology, space law, outsourcing, and many others. The conference will take place June 17-19, 2008.
Pacific Legal Foundation's Program for Judicial Awareness will award $10,000 for the best original contribution to legal scholarship by a junior faculty member on the topic of Fifth Amendment and the Takings Clause. Entries must be submitted by May 30, 2008.
The University of Maryland School of Law will host the 2008 CALI Conference for Law School Computing on June 19 - 21, 2008. Session proposals will be accepted up to June 1, 2008.
The German Law Journal and the Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law are soliciting papers for their symposium issue on Legal Scholarship, Legal Education and the Legal Profession in a Transnational World. Paper abstracts are due by June 1, 2008 and full papers by October 31, 2008.
Southern Connecticut State University is hosting its 18th Annual Women's Studies Conference. Interdisciplinary topics of legal interest that will be explored during the conference include transnational adoption, human trafficking, human rights, and violence against girls and women. The submission deadline for papers is June 12, 2008.
Thanks to the IntLawGrrls blog for this announcement on submissions to a forthcoming issue of the International Journal of Transitional Justice coving topics such as gender and development, accountability of state and nonstate actors, and poverty and economic development programs. Deadline for submissions is June 15, 2008.
The National e-Science Centre and the Coalition for Networked Information are holding their 4th International Digital Curation Conference with the theme "Radical Sharing: Transforming Science?". The conference organizers are seeking papers on legal topics including creative commons and licenses, privacy and data protection, legal liability for preserved content, and IP law. Papers submission deadline is July 25, 2008.
The Widener Law Journal is commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the National Conference of State Trial Judges by publishing essays and articles discussing the changes that have affected trial judges over the last fifty years. Pieces will be published in the Spring 2009 issue of the Journal. Proposal should be submitted by September 1, 2008 and completed works by December 1, 2008.

The Faculty Publications database has been updated to include separate full-text links to LexisNexis, Westlaw, HeinOnline, and SSRN, where available.
The Monthly Acquisitions List email will now come out at the beginning of the following month, instead of at the end of that month (i.e. the May list will now come out at the beginning of June, instead of the end of June). Library materials can be requested through the online form.
Starting in the Summer semester, Online Course Materials pages [password required] will be maintained by the Library. These online pages will take the place of and serve the same function as the Course Reserves database.
