Cleveland State University Blackboard Courses

The Cleveland State University Center for eLearning manages the Blackboard CE system on campus. Similarly to the LexisNexis Web Courses system, the CSU system is an adapted version of the Blackboard Learning System. However, the CSU system has more features than those available on LexisNexis, and one may find it somewhat difficult to use. Law Library Research Librarians are available to assist you in the creation and management of your CSU Blackboard course. Of course, we all need to work within the procedures and requirements of the CSU Center for eLearning. Faculty are advised to request Blackboard course shells at least 3 weeks before the start of a semester.

Connect to essential information on the CSU Blackboard system from the Center for eLearning page by clicking on Faculty within the right navigation menu. At the Center for eLearning - Faculty page, within the right navigation menu, you will find links to Faculty Guides; Faculty Help; Request a Blackboard Web Shell; Content Selection and Production; Training; and other resources.

The Faculty Guides page includes information on:
Getting Started with eLearning for Faculty - a helpful brief guide on CSU Blackboard system essentials.
Instructional Design Consultation Policies - faculty are advised to make consultation requests at least 1 month before the beginning of a course.
Blackboard CE Instructors and Designers Reference - a 742 page manual on the Blackboard Learning System.
Request for Proposals - guidelines for submitting proposals for online or blended elearning programs.

The Faculty Help page includes a link to the Ask eLearning Knowledge Base page. At the Ask eLearning Knowledge Base page, note the links "For Faculty" and "Tutorials, Guides, Documents." The For Faculty page includes information on Content Management, Communication Tools, Gradebook, Assignment Dropboxes, and Assessments. At the Tutorials, Guides, Documents page, connect to the "For Faculty" section for a pdf document detailing Instructions to Self-Register for Blackboard Orientation Courses and the 742 page Blackboard CE Instructors and Designers Reference.

As its name implies, the Request a Blackboard Web Shell page includes information on the types of available shells and links to request forms for them. Available shells are:

Regular -for regular semester/term courses; tied to CampusNet registration system.
Developmental -for long-term course development or master/template courses.
Community- for non-course academic groups.

The Content Selection and Production page provides information on External Sources of Course Content available for importation to one's course, as well as Content Production Information on supported course applications such as Web pages, documents, videos, MediaSite productions, Camtasia productions, podcasts, and assessment activities (eg, exams, games).

The Training page provides information on workshops, open labs, and customized training.
