LexisNexis Web Courses

The LexisNexis Web Courses system is an adapted version of the Blackboard Learning System. While the LexisNexis system is a simplified version of the Blackboard system, one may find it somewhat difficult to use. Law Library Research Librarians are available to assist you in the creation and management of your LexisNexis Web Course. Below are basic instructions for creating and managing a LexisNexis Web Course.

To create a LexisNexis Web Course:
1. Sign on to lexisnexis.com/lawschool
2. Click on the "Web Courses" tab, then "Creation/Deletion Form"
3. At the next page, you will be prompted to select a Course Subject Area, name your Course Title, enter a Start Date, enter an End Date, and indicate the Number of Students; after making your selections, click on the Save button.
4. The system will display the Course Name and Subject Area, as well as links to Edit or Delete the course.
5. To create content and manage your course you need to connect to it via the LexisNexis "Access Web Courses" page.

To connect to the LexisNexis "Access Web Courses" page:
1. Sign on to lexisnexis.com/lawschool
2. Click on the "Web Courses" tab, then "Access Web Courses"
3. The next page will display announcements, tasks, a long Course Catalog (alphabetized by college or university name), a list of the "Courses you are teaching" (under "My Courses"), and links to Tutorials. Connect to your desired course, click on an item under "Courses your are teaching" or scroll down and click on "Cleveland State University" then the desired course at the next page.

When connected to the opening page of your LexisNexis Web Course, the system will display a basic navigation menu, as well as a "Tools" menu and "Control Panel" link within the green frame at the left. The basic navigation menu includes Announcements, Course Information, Staff Information, Course Documents, Assignments, etc. These items can be edited via the "Control Panel."

The "Control Panel" allows one to design the look of the course and its navigation; create and store content in a variety of formats; create links to LexisNexis content, CALI Lessons, and other Web-based materials; manage student enrollment; communicate with students via announcements, email, and discussion bulletin boards; schedule activities and appointments; create quizzes/tests; manage assignment submission; and manage grading.

In addition to the online Tutorials offered on the LexisNexis "Access Web Courses" page, at the "Web Courses" tab page, you can connect to the Web Courses At-a-Glance guide and the Faculty User Manual (also known as the "Building LexisNexis Web Courses" guide). Also, again, Law Library Research Librarians are available to assist you in the creation and management of your LexisNexis Web Course.
