The Faculty Current Awareness Bulletin is published periodically by the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Library for the faculty and staff of the Law School. The Bulletin contains selected announcements of symposia, conferences, requests for articles and requests for research proposals. Symposia & Conferences

The AALS Annual Meeting: Reassessing Our Roles as Scholars and Educators in Light of Change will be held January 2 - 6, 2008 in New York City. The theme of the conference is "Reassessing Our Roles as Scholars and Educators in Light of Change."

The Georgia State University College of Law is hosting an international Conference on the Future of Legal Education. Applications to participate as a speaker or discussant are being accepted immediately with decisions being made by January 7. The conference will take place in Atlanta on February 20-23.

The National Center for Remote Sensing, Air and Space Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law will host the Second International Conference on the State of Remote Sensing Law on January 17-18, 2008.

The Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution is hosting its annual symposium on The Second Generation of Dispute System Design: Reoccurring Problems and Potential Solutions on January 24, 2008.

The Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal will host its 9th Annual Intellectual Property Symposium on February 8, 2008.

The William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law will hold a conference on the Citizen Lawyer on February 8-9, 2008.

The Michigan Journal of Race & Law presents its annual symposium with the theme "From Proposition 209 to Proposal 2: Examining the Effect of Anti-Affirmative Action Voter Initiatives" on February 9, 2008.

Santa Clara Law Review's symposium will address the topic When Change Comes Home: Legal Repercussions and Comparative Perspectives on the Transforming Structure of American Households on February 15, 2008.

The Ohio State Law Journal presents the 2007-08 Symposium: The School Desegregation Cases and the Uncertain Future of Racial Equality on February 21-22, 2008.

The Yale Journal of International Law announces its Sixth Annual Young Scholar's Conference, to take place on March 1, 2008.

Call for Papers, Proposals & Grants

The Tulsa Law Review is accepting article submissions for its Annual Supreme Court Review Issue that will feature guest editor Erwin Chemerinsky. The call for papers deadline is January 15, 2008.

The Chapman University School of Law invites submission for the Chapman Law Review in connection with its 10th annual symposium to be held in February 2008: "Publicity Rights in Bytes: Contemporary Issues in Entertainment and Sports Law." The deadlines for papers is January 18, 2008.

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) and the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP) will hold their Fourth Joint Conference in July 2008 in Chicago. The Joint Congress Committee invites papers corresponding to a number of tracks. Two tracks of particular interest are land use policy and governance and planning processes, law, administration, and dispute resolution. Submission deadline is February 8, 2008.

The University of Ottawa Law & Technology Journal is seeking submissions for a special issue on Science and the Courts to be published in 2008. Suggested topics include electronic evidence, expert witnesses, patent litigation, nanotechnology, DNA, and others. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2008. The Journal also invites articles on a rolling basis for general topics such as internet law, e-commerce, privacy, intellectual property, communications, and cybercrime.

Stanford and Yale Law Schools announce the ninth session of the Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum to be held at Yale Law School on June 20-21, 2008. The theme for this year is law and the humanities and will cover such topics as administrative, constitutional, criminal, environmental and family law, as well as law and literature, critical legal studies and gender studies. The deadline for submissions is March 21, 2008. Please see Amy Burchfield for more details.

On April 4, 2008, Creighton Law Review is hosting a symposium on Human Rights Law. Articles are currently being requested on the following topics as they relate to human rights: international conflict, women, human trafficking, economic development, responsibility of public corporations, Native Americans / immigrants / migrant workers, and the application of international human rights law in the U.S. No submission deadline posted.

Pacific Legal Foundation's Program for Judicial Awareness will award $10,000 for the best original contribution to legal scholarship by a junior faculty member on the topic of Fifth Amendment and the Takings Clause. Entries must be submitted by May 30, 2008.

The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology at Northwestern University School of Law is ready to accept submissions for its 2008 symposium, Domestic and International Criminal Responses to Human Rights Violations: Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity, Torture, and Denial of Habeas Corpus. No deadline date posted.

The Southern New England Roundtable Symposium Law Journal is accepting submissions for the 2008 issue on "Trends and Issues in Intellectual Property" and the 2009 issue on "Trends and Issues in Bankruptcy and the Family." No deadline date posted.

For Your Information

The Entrepreneurial Business Law Journal (EBLJ) is the newest journal at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. This semi-annual journal explores the legal issues facing entrepreneurs, small business owners, and venture capitalists. The Journal accepts submissions on a rolling basis.

UCLA and Cornell Law Schools have joined to create a database of law journal articles that contain either original empirical research or significant analysis of data from other sources, such as census data. The ELS Bibliography contains articles dated July 2005 and later. The creators hope to add articles going back to 2005. See Database Description.

EISIL (Electronic Information System for International Law) is the American Society of International Law's premier online research tool for international law. The creators of EISIL have a ready-made PowerPoint presentation and other materials on how to use EISIL for international research. These materials can be used for classes, brown-bag lunches and personal use.
