2009 Orientation Essentials
Below is a list of items that should be completed before Orientation. These items are essential for your success in law school, and we will be using them in your Law Library Orientation session. Please complete the following items in the order they are listed. When working on these items, if you are prompted for a username and password, unless otherwise indicated, use your College of Law username and password. If you have difficulties completing any of these items, come to the Orientation Jump Start session on Thursday, August 13, 2009 anytime between 3-7pm..

Forward CSU Email to College of Law Email Account
Important information, such as University parking and safety information, University announcements, and library overdue notices, may be sent to your CSU email. If you don't check your CSU email, overdue fines could rack up. Forwarding your CSU email to your College of Law email account will simplify your email checking process.
To Forward Your CSU Email to Your College of Law Email Account:
1. Connect to CampusNet. [You can also connect from virtually any College of Law or Law Library Web page – click on CampusNet in the bottom black navigation bar.]
2. Login to CampusNet using your CSU ID number and Password.
3. At your CampusNet Account home page, click on email in the top green navigation bar.
4. The system will display your CSU email address and other CSU email information. Click
on Forward.
5. Enter your College of Law email address in the “Forward email address” box, then click on Save.
6. Click on Logout at top right.
Register on LexisNexis and Westlaw
LexisNexis and Westlaw provide access to databases composed of cases, statutes, regulations, law review articles, newspaper articles and more. For more information on LexisNexis and Westlaw go here.
Acceptable Use: You can use these databases only for school-related research purposes. It is a violation of the Student Honor Code to use these databanks for nonacademic work. Violators may be subject to loss of LexisNexis/Westlaw privileges and expulsion from school.
Printing: Send print jobs to the Lexis and Westlaw printers. This does not count against your annual allotment of 1,000 Computer Lab printer pages, but you are restricted to 200 pages per day.
Printing in excess of this amount may result in cancellation of the print request and/or suspension of your ability to print to these printers. Students found to be printing excessively will receive warning email notices before suspension of their printing abilities.
Registering Your LexisNexis Activation Code and Creating Your Custom ID & Password:
1. Connect to LexisNexis for Law Schools.
2. Click on Register Now below“Student - Register Your Activation Code.”
3. The Registration page should appear. Follow the directions and prompts.

Registering Your Westlaw Password and Creating Your Custom Username & Password:
1. Connect to Westlaw.
2. Click on REGISTER PASSWORD inside the box on the left side.
3. The Academic Westlaw Registration page should appear. To the right of Registering for the First Time? click on Click here.
4. Follow the directions and prompts.

Register on CALI
The CALI Library of Lessons covers topics from basic lawyering skills, such as legal research and writing and trial advocacy, to how to prepare for classes and take law school exams. Faculty sometimes use CALI Lessons to cover material not discussed in class, as well as incorporate CALI Lessons into their courses as assignments or in-class exercises.

Create a Scholar/OhioLINK PIN
Scholar is the campus-wide catalog for the CSU libraries. CSU also participates in a state consortium of libraries called OhioLINK. If CSU libraries don’t have an item you want, you can search for, and request, it in OhioLINK.
Note: You can also connect to Scholar and OhioLINK from the Law Library home page – Click on Scholar or OhioLINK within the large middle black navigation box.
A Scholar/OhioLINK PIN will enable you to manage checked-out materials, requests for materials, and more. To create a Scholar/OhioLINK PIN, follow the instructions below or watch this short video.
1. Connect to Scholar.
2. Click on MY ACCOUNT within the top black navigation bar.
3. At the My Account page, type in your first and last name and CSU ID#, then click on the Submit button.
4. The system will note you did not enter a PIN, and prompt you to do so or to create one. Follow the instructions and prompts to create your PIN.

Subscribe to BNA's US Law Week
Practicing attorneys use current awareness services to keep up to date on new case law and other developments. One of the best known current awareness services is US Law Week/Supreme Court Today by BNA. This email service summarizes selected new state and federal cases, which establish new precedents, and tracks every Supreme Court petition and case on the docket, from filing to final disposition. You should get in the habit of using a current awareness service to keep up with legal developments.
To sign up for email delivery of BNA's US Law Week, follow the instructions below or watch this short video.
1. Connect to BNA Sign up for BNA Current Awareness Services
2. Click on BNA news services within the sentence “Sign up for summaries from licensed BNA news services, or change email preferences”
3. At the next page, enter your College of Law email Address, then click on Submit.
4. At the next page, enter your First Name and Last Name, and, if desired, additional contact information, then click on Submit.
5. At the next page, select HTML as your email format, select U.S. Law Week and Supreme Court Today, then click on Submit.
6. The system will display your contact information and selected publications; click on Close Window X to exit.
Computer Lab Information
Be sure your Student Account is active – go into the Law Library Computer Lab and use your College of Law Username and Password to log on to your Account. If you cannot log on, consult the Automation staff.

In order to activate your College of Law Network Account, you must send yourself a test message from the Law Library Computer Lab. While sending this first message, the system may ask for your Password several times - use your College of Law Password.
Launch email from your Lab account Start menu.
If any part of this process does not work, consult the Automation staff.
