SPIRE Institute/ReCreation LLC
Location: 1822 S. Broadway, Geneva, OH 44041
Credits: 4 or 6 Credit Hours for Fall or Spring Term
Prerequisites: RCC, minimum GPA 2.50, completion of at least 29 credit hours, and approval of site supervisor.
SPIRE Institute, a non-profit organization, is one of the largest indoor, multi-sport, training and competition complexes in the world. Its mission is to unlock the full potential of the human spirit through athletics, academics and service to others. The extern will be exposed to practical hands-on experiences in sports law, nonprofit law, education law and general practice. Externs will handle a wide variety of assignments including conducting legal research, legal review of national-level event bids, legal review of contracts with potential sponsors and partners, drafting host agreements and drafting and reviewing policies and other corporate documents. SPIRE externs will also have the opportunity to work on tasks related to ReCreation's (shares co-ownership with SPIRE). ReCreation Sports and Entertainmnet Consulting was formed to become the leading solutions provider related to sales and operational management in the sports and entertainment field.
Law students who are interested in exploring sports law positions, corporate law, nonprofit law, education law or general practice in a fast paced environment will find that the SPIRE/ReCreation externship is an excellent learning experience.
Students may register for 4 credits (16 hours per week) or 6 credits (24 hours per week) in the fall or spring terms. In the summer term, students may register for 3 credits (24 hours per week) or 5 credits (40 hours per week). Students in this externship must also participate in an Externship Seminar conducted at the law school by the externship faculty supervisor. Graded Pass/Fail.

An externship application, a resume and writing sample must be submitted for consideration through Symplicity. The supervising staff at the SPIRE Institute will make the final selection of students.
