Michael Stovsky is Chair of Benesch’s Innovations, Information Technology & Intellectual Property (3iP) Practice Group, a core practice group of the firm with 23 professionals across 4 cities. He is also a member of the firm's Executive Committee.
Mr. Stovsky has extensive experience representing companies in a variety of industries and growth stages as outside counsel in IP and technology transactions, licenses, technology transfer and all forms of business process outsourcing (SaaS, IaaS and PaaS). He represents clients in the acquisition, divestiture and licensing of IP assets and rights, and the purchase and sale of intellectual property portfolios at private sale and auction.
Mr. Stovsky also has extensive experience in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures of businesses, IP aspects of M&A transactions, and corporate and securities matters including early stage, venture capital and private equity financings. He handles IP due diligence, acquisition and commercialization; information systems and information technology implementation transactions (including large scale, multi-site ERP and CRM implementation transactions), IT development, technology services, professional services, service level, large scale computer and telecommunications network services, equipment purchases, sales, licenses and maintenance deals.
In addition, Mr. Stovsky is experienced in open source software issues and licenses including IT reseller, Internet, eCommerce, healthcare IT (including electronic medical records software implementation) agreements. He has also frequently worked on matters involving Big Data, data warehousing, data classification, and federal, state, local and foreign privacy and data security (including
Canadian and European Union rules and directives, US/EU and US/Swiss Safe Harbors, HIPAA and HITECH, and Gramm Leach Blilely privacy and security rules), COPPA, FTC Red Flag rule, and data breach response and notification. He works to preserve and commercialize IP (patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets) assets and rights on behalf of his clients.
