Search Federal and Many State Dockets at Once:

  • Bloomberg Dockets -Full text searching of the docket and  fulltext search of available filings.   All federal court dockets/documents accessible via PACER are accessible via Bloomberg for FREE to law students/faculty.
  • Westlaw Next Dockets
  • Lexis Advance - From the pulldown menu underneath the search box, select dockets.  Jurisdictions can be specified before or after you run the search.

Check court coverage when using these  - NOT all courts are included, and coverage varies with each service.

Pacer- Search Pacer, Get a Pacer Account - Cost is 10 cents a page.  Currently  $15/quarter for free.  Free PACER training site  contains cases filed in the New York Western District Court between 1/1/2007 and 7/1/2007.  Search by case number, party name, date, nature of suit.  Includes district, appellate and bankruptcy cases.
  • The library can search PACER on behalf of a law student or faculty member.  The same dockets on PACER are accessible via Bloomberg Law.

Bloomberg Dockets -Full text searching of the docket and  fulltext search of available filings.   All federal court dockets/documents accessible via PACER are accessible via Bloomberg for FREE to law students/faculty.


Free Dockets:
  • Justia Federal District Court Dockets - Free, but limited information. Searchable by party name, lawsuit type and date filed. District Court cases only. 
  • Courtport's FreeCourtDockets.com. - Docket is free, but you must go on PACER to get the documents filed in the case. Directly links to PACER to purchase filings. Searchable only by case number, but one can run a party name search on Justia Dockets. You must request an invitation code to access FreeCourtDockets
Free Documents:
  • Recap - A Firefox extension that will indicate which documents are in Recap's free archive, when you pull up the docket on Pacer, and allow you to access the free documents. When you pull a document off Pacer, it saves it to the Recap archive. Searchable archive available.

Ohio Rules of Court  from the Ohio Supreme Court.  Ohio Civil Rules, Rules of Evidence, Criminal Rules, Etc.

Ohio Trial Court Local Rules - from the Ohio Supreme Court.  A collection of rules, some of which are not on the trial courts' website.

Database of Ohio Court Rules - Appellate, county and municipal court rules. Links to rules which are already on the web, plus rules in print that were scanned in by the Ohio Law Library Consortium, a cooperative of Ohio County Law Libraries.

Finding Example Filings

Summit County Docket is the most helpful, as you can look by type of filing. 

Montgomery County also has full text filings. 

Try searching a case law database first, find the docket number, and then go to the docket to find full text filings. 

Also try filings databases and dockets in Lexis, Westlaw and Bloomberg.

Common Pleas

Westlaw - Ohio Dockets and also LexisAdvance and Bloomberg, but not all courts are included.

Mayor's Courts
