Gwendolyn Roberts Majette's undergraduate degree is from Emory University,
her JD is from the George Washington University School of Law, and her LLM in Global Health, with distinction, is from Georgetown University Law Center. While at Georgetown she was also a Global Health Law Scholar.
Professor Majette has significant teaching experience. She has taught contracts and various courses in the health law curriculum. Past courses include: Health Care Law and Policy; Health Care Legislation, Policy, and the Regulatory Process; Health Care Finance and Access; Introduction to International Health, Human Rights and Public Health; Law and Medicine; and Bioethics. She has taught at Johns Hopkins University, American University Washington College of Law, Howard University School of Law, and Howard University School of Medicine.
Health Care Law is Professor Majette's scholarly area of interest. Her work focuses on patients' rights, delivery system reform, global health, and health care reform. Her work has been relied on by the United States Commission for Civil Rights, the Department of Health and Human Services, the World Health Organization, and is cited in one of the leading health law texts. Some of her recent articles include: Global Health Law Norms: A Coherent Framework to Understand PPACA's Approach to Eliminate Health Disparities and Address Implementation Challenges; Global Health Law Norms and the PPACA Framework to Eliminate Health Disparities; PPACA and Public Health: Creating a Framework to Focus on Prevention and Wellness and Improve the Public's Health; and From Concierge Medicine to Patient-Centered Medical Homes: International Lessons & the Search for a Better Way to Deliver Primary Health Care in the U.S. She has also been quoted in the national media and appeared as a legal expert on local newscasts regarding health care reform.
Professor Majette has worked on health care issues on Capitol Hill. She was a Legislative Fellow with a senator on the Health Subcommittee of the Senate Finance Committee, where she worked on Medicare, Medicaid, and Health Care Reform Policy. She also analyzed and reviewed Medicare policy as a Fellow with the Health Subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee of the United States House of Representative. Most recently she served on the executive team of a public corporation as the Director of Policy for a state based exchange.
Professor Majette frequently consults on health care matters for the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Internationally, she has spoken with South African academicians and government officials regarding the strengths and weakness of their health care delivery system.
