Gwendolyn Roberts Majette's undergraduate degree is from Emory University, her JD is from the George Washington University School of Law, and her LLM in Global Health, with distinction, is from Georgetown University Law Center. While at Georgetown she was also a Global Health Law Scholar.
Professor Majette has significant teaching experience. She has taught contracts and various courses in the health law curriculum. Past courses include: Health Care Law and Policy; Introduction to International Health, Human Rights and Public Health; Law and Medicine; and Bioethics. Most recently in 2010, she was a Lecturer in the American University Washington College of Law's Health Law and Policy Institute. She has also taught health related courses at Howard University School of Law and Howard University School of Medicine.
Health Care Law is Professor Majette's scholarly area of interest. Her work focuses on patients' rights, delivery system reform, and health care reform. Her article, "Access to Health Care: What a Difference Shades of Color Makes," has been relied on by the United States Commission for Civil Rights, the Department of Health and Human Services, and is cited in one of the leading health law texts. She recently published two articles: From Concierge Medicine to Patient-Centered Medical Homes: International Lessons & the Search for a Better Way to Deliver Primary Health Care in the U.S., 35 Am. J. L. & Med. 585 (2009) and Health Care Reform and the Missing Voice of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 10 Hous. J. Health L. & Pol'y 35 (2009).
Professor Majette also worked on health care issues on Capitol Hill. She was a Legislative Fellow with a senator on the Health Subcommittee of the Senate Finance Committee, where she worked on Medicare, Medicaid, and Health Care Reform Policy. She also analyzed and reviewed Medicare policy as a Fellow with the Health Subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee of the United States House of Representative.
Professor Majette frequently consults on health care matters for the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Internationally, she has spoken with South African academicians and government officials regarding the strengths and weakness of their health care delivery system.
