The use of technology in the practice of law is ever evolving, and Cleveland-Marshall is committed to staying ahead of the latest trends in legal technology. The law school uses cutting-edge technology to educate students, and exposes them to the latest applications and devices utilized in the legal professions. Technological and innovative initiatives enacted by Cleveland-Marshall include:
Cleveland-Marshall’s trial courtroom features state-of-the-art technology and is the most advanced courtroom of its kind in any law school in Ohio. Among its advanced technological features are plasma televisions and video displays, high-definition recording and live streaming capabilities and high-tech, court reporting software.
Cleveland-Marshall is home to a recently opened solo practice incubator, just one of fewer than 10 law school-based solo practice incubators nationwide. The incubator provides resources for entrepreneurial recent graduates looking to start their first businesses.
Each newly enrolled student at Cleveland-Marshall receives ownership of a brand-new iPad. These iPads are used by many professors as part of the classroom experience, allowing students to view electronic textbooks, edit and annotate lecture notes and participate in real-time classroom polling. Cleveland-Marshall faculty plan to expand the use of this platform as additional educational opportunities become available.
The classrooms at Cleveland-Marshall are outfitted with leading-edge technology that allows professors to maximize the educational experience. Many of Cleveland-Marshall’s classrooms include smart podiums, LCD projectors, evidence cameras and high-end audio systems, while seminar rooms also feature LCD video monitors and wall-port connections for laptops and other video sources.
Beyond the classroom, Cleveland-Marshall offers a variety of technological applications that are practical in preparing for a legal career. Cleveland-Marshall’s clinics feature state-of-the-art client management software that is being used by real law firms. The moot court team, trial advocacy program and other student organizations use advanced technology seen in courtrooms throughout the country. The law library offers online research databases utilized by lawyers daily.
Cleveland-Marshall students have access to secure, high-speed wireless internet anywhere in the law building and throughout the CSU campus. Students can access the secured wireless connections from their iPads, laptops and smartphones, or via the dozens of computers available in the law library.
