Cleveland-Marshall alumnus to address graduates during May 17th ceremony

Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald '93 will deliver the commencement address at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law’s graduation ceremony for the class of 2014.  The ceremony will take place Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cleveland State University Bert L. and Iris S. Wolstein Center.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to deliver the commencement address for this year's graduating class at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law," said FitzGerald. "As an alumnus, I know firsthand the hard work that this year's graduates have dedicated to their education, and I look forward to congratulating them on their significant accomplishments."

After graduating from Cleveland-Marshall, FitzGerald embarked on a career of public service. He began as a special agent for the FBI, and progressed to an assignment to the Organized Crime Task Force. After his FBI service, FitzGerald returned to Ohio, serving as an assistant county prosecutor, an attorney in private practice, and eventually, Mayor of Lakewood.  In 2010, FitzGerald was elected as the first County Executive of Cuyahoga County. During his time in county office, FitzGerald has dramatically improved the efficiency of county government, and has put in place some of the toughest ethics laws in the state.  He is currently in the midst of a campaign as a 2014 Ohio gubernatorial candidate.

“We are proud of the many Cleveland-Marshall alumni who serve in leadership positions at the local, state and federal levels of government, and benefit from the exceptional network they provide,” said Cleveland-Marshall Dean Craig M. Boise. “Mr. FitzGerald’s outstanding career serves as a positive example for our current students as they embark on their own opportunities to make a difference.”

A ticket is required for all attendees of the commencement ceremony.  Immediately following the ceremony, graduates and guests will be invited to attend a reception at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, 1801 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland.
