CSU Cleveland-Marshall College of Law is excited to announce the launch of our Social Justice Film Series on February 23 at 5pm in the Cleveland-Marshall Moot Court Room, in partnership with the CSU School of Film & Media Arts.

Please join us for the February 23, 5pm Panel Discussion with native Clevelander, Michael Milano, the Director of the acclaimed Netflix Film 137 Shots.

Milano will be joined by other Clevelanders who are featured in this powerful and important documentary film. WKYC TV3 Anchor Russ Mitchell will moderate the discussion. 

The film focuses on the 2012 police chase and fatal shootings of 43-year-old Timothy Russell and 30-year-old Malissa Williams by Cleveland police. You can watch the trailer here.

Moderator:

Russ Mitchell

Russ Mitchell is executive editor and lead anchor of WKYC 3 News at 6 and 11. Before coming to WKYC in 2012, Russ spent 20 years as a national correspondent and anchor at CBS News. Among his honors, he is the recipient of 14 national and regional Emmy Awards. Russ is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

 


Panelists:

Michael Milano

Michael Milano is the director and producer of the Netflix Documentary 137 Shots. Milano also directed and produced Burning Ojai, about California’s wildfires for HBO in 2020. Prior to earning his master’s degree at the University of California Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, Milano was an elementary school teacher in New Orleans. Milano’s work has been funded by the Sundance Institute, the Ford Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation and The New York Times. He is CEO of Make It Plain Productions.


Damian Eduardos

Damian Eduardos is a producer and the Director of Photography on the Netflix Documentary 137 Shots. Damian’s passion for photography and film began at the age of seventeen. He turned a hobby into a profession studying under the late Masumi Hayashi at Cleveland State University. Now, nearly 15 years later Damian has photographed and filmed almost every subject imaginable -- from fashion to food to portraits to the abstract to celebrities -- Damian’s portfolio of work reflects the passion he has for creating a stunning visual dialogue.


Jackie Russell

Jackie Russell, who appears in 137 Shots, is married to Donald Russell, brother of Timothy Russell. Mrs. Russell is a Patient Access Supervisor at University Hospitals and she is a leader of the Russell Family Charity, From Darkness to Light. Jackie says, "Timothy is greatly missed but we keep his spirit alive through memories and events such as this."

 

 


Alonzo Mitchell III 

Alonzo Mitchell III is a Clevelander who votes in every election after researching all the candidates (including judges), what each candidate stands for, and what all the issues will mean for current and future Clevelanders.  Alonzo currently serves as the Chief Strategy Officer for www.goodvalueprinting.com - the nation’s premier black owned online printing company. He was the CEO of Ohio Homecoming, a grassroots movement to educate, unite, and organize the positive energies inside and outside of Cleveland. Mitchell appeared alongside Mansfield Frazier on the radio in the Netflix Documentary, 137 Shots.
