C|M|LAW Named One of Nation’s Best
Part-time program named best in Ohio

Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law rose 14 places in the 2019 U.S. News and World Report Law School Rankings, marking the fourth highest increase among the nation’s 194 full time ABA accredited law schools and the highest increase of any Ohio law school. C|M|LAW ranked 113 overall and fourth in the state of Ohio. The school’s longstanding part-time program ranked first in the state, tied with the University of Toledo College of Law.

The rankings are based on scores across various data points along with peer assessment ratings. C|M|LAW increased this year in the areas of median undergraduate GPA, student/faculty ratios, full-time employment 10 months after graduation, selectivity in applicant acceptance, and peer assessment.

“While the rankings don’t tell the whole story, they measure factors that affirm C|M|LAW’s innovative curricular changes and student-centered initiatives are leading us in the right direction,” said Lee Fisher, Dean and Joseph C. Hostetler-BakerHostetler Chair in Law. “We’ve not only shown resilience during the challenges to the nation’s law schools, but have emerged as a leading institution with a strong future.”

The law school has recently gained national recognition for new initiatives in legal technology, including a Cybersecurity Center that takes a rare multidisciplinary approach integrating law, technology and business management; a groundbreaking Space Law Center; a new Tech Lab, and expanded industry-aligned certifications in Health Care Law.  The school further innovated its strong practical learning experiences through “pop-up practicums” that allow students to do actual work on timely legal projects, and added enhanced collaborative learning experiences through the state-of-the-art Rawson Learning Commons.

The school is home to the Solo Practice Incubator that supports entrepreneurial new graduates, and a technologically advanced Trial Courtroom for simulated learning. In addition to the Juris Doctor (JD), C|M|LAW also offers legal education to address various career needs, including a Master of Legal Studies (MLS), Master of Laws (LLM), and professional certifications in Health Care Law and eDiscovery.
