Cleveland-Marshall guarantees each graduate will enter the field with hands-on lawyering experience through its engaged learning requirement. Each student is required to participate in an externship or clinic, often times electing take part more than one opportunity, to build upon their classroom education. Through engaged learning experiences, students are connected to the Cleveland legal community, and employers witness firsthand that Cleveland-Marshall students are prepared for exceptional professional careers.
Students serve the community while learning lawyering skills as they work directly with individual or organizational clients on real legal issues. Under the close supervision of experienced attorneys and professors, students are tasked with performing material legal work in one of three specialized clinics: Civil Litigation, Community Advocacy Law, and Transactional Law.
Students earn externships with organizations that are specifically selected to maximize their learning opportunities while in a real-world legal setting. Externing students work closely with a supervising attorney or judge in high-level placements in a judicial, government, public interest or corporate setting.
