Earlier this week, a racist and anti-LGBTQ posting was found on Cleveland State University’s campus which urged LGBTQ students to kill themselves. These ugly and hateful postings are unacceptable and have been removed.
We all must strongly condemn the message presented in the postings. Harassment and abuse are unwelcome at Cleveland-Marshall and CSU. Threats of violence are not permitted whatsoever, and will not be tolerated. These cowardly acts undermine the mission and values of our academic community.
At moments like this, we must re-emphasize that Cleveland-Marshall College of Law is here for all students. All.
Every single one of our students, staff, and faculty brings merit to this law school and is deserving of the basic dignity of having access to a learning environment free from danger. Cleveland-Marshall values a safe, supportive community for all. You are all welcome and valued; your religion, race, ethnicity, language, citizenship, sexual orientation, and gender are honored. We reject, in the strongest possible terms, hate, intolerance, bigotry, and attempts to diminish the values or identity of our community members.
To LGBTQ students, faculty, staff and alumni: we stand with you. We will defend your right to be who you are at Cleveland-Marshall and as part of our proud legacy which we will honor October 19 at our inaugural Hall of Fame event.
Hate will find no fertile ground to grow here. We are a place where we welcome diverse viewpoints but where we share common values. Our philosophy of teaching and learning has, at its core, the values of inclusive excellence, social justice, and equality.
Learn Law. Live Justice.
