Description

Corequisite: RCC. The Appellate Practice Clinic has three primary goals: First, to introduce students to the arc of a trial-court record -- including briefings, motions, court hearing transcripts, and opinions. Second, to utilize the students' research and writing skills to plan, and then execute, a fine-tuned appellate brief. Finally, to allow students the opportunity to develop and practice their oral-argument skills. The Clinic will represent both under-privileged clients who would otherwise represent themselves; and file Amicus Briefs on behalf of deserved parties in cases that are of valuable educational interest. The Clinic will represent clients before Ohio State Courts (mainly the 8th District Court of Appeals); U.S. Federal Courts (mainly the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals); and Immigration Courts (mainly the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA)). This course satisfies the experiential skills course requirements.
