First Assignment Spring 2015

Criminal Law

LAW 506 Section 03

Jonathan P Witmer-Rich

Assignment details

We do not have a "casebook" for this class, but we will be using Joshua Dressler's Understanding Criminal Law treatise. I will assign materials from the Dressler book by section numbers, as you can see below.

In addition, I will assign statutes, cases, and other materials. Materials other than Dressler can be located in a variety of ways: Westlaw or Lexis, on various public websites, or in the law library. Part of the assignment is finding the material (which should not be difficult) and thereby becoming acquainted with various resources for locating legal materials.

For our first day of class, please read the following:

-Dressler § 1.01

-Ohio Revised Code (O.R.C.) §§ 2901.02, 2901.03, 2901.05(A), (E)

-Sixth Circuit Pattern Jury Instructions, 1.03, Proof Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (including Committee Comment 1.03)

-Owens v. State, 611 A.2d 1043 (Md. App. 1992)
