Consider the following questions as you read each opinion:

1. What constitutional provision/s are the source of the majority holding? 

2. What is the effect of the majority holding?

3. Do the dissenting opinions think that same-sex marriage should not be permitted in the U.S.?

4. What process do the dissenting opinions argue could legitimately recognize same-sex marriage?

5. What role do the dissenting opinions think the constitution should play in determining this question?
