First Assignment Fall 2015

Criminal Procedure I

LAW 621 Section 01

Jonathan P. Witmer-Rich

Assignment details

For the first class please read Chapters 1 and 2 from the casebook.

You may also find it helpful to read the opening "Study Guide: How to Use This Book."

The casebook is a new book by Ric Simmons and Renee McDonald Hutchins, titled "Learning Criminal Procedure" (West 2015). You must buy a hard copy of the casebook, NOT an electronic version. (This is because the final exam will be open-book, but you cannot use an electronic book during the exam.)

The casebook is published two ways: one book contains the materials for Crim Pro I, and the other book is larger and contains the materials for Crim Pro I and Crim Pro II. (The materials for Crim Pro I in each book are identical.)

If you are only taking Crim Pro I, it is cheaper to buy the shorter book: Learning Criminal Procedure: Investigations, ISBN 978-1-62810-150-8.

If you are taking both Crim Pro I and Crim Pro II from me, it is cheaper to buy the larger book and use it for both classes: Learning Criminal Procedure, ISBN 987-0-314-28670-3.

You should buy ONE of these books but NOT BOTH.
