First Assignment Fall 2016

Taxation: Wealth Transfer Tax

LAW 606 Section 1

Geoff Weaver

Assignment details
Welcome to Wealth Transfer Tax! Professor John Plecnik's duties as Interim Associate Dean of the College of Graduate Studies preclude him from teaching more than one course a semester. Rather than cancel your class, our administration has assigned Professor Plecnik to serve as Adjunct Professor Geoff Weaver's faculty mentor, and Professor Weaver will teach the course using Professor Plecnik's materials.

By way of introduction, Professor Weaver is a long-time and respected estate planner and former prosecutor from Lake County. He holds his J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Our course will survey the taxation of gratuitous wealth transfers as well as the income taxation of estates and trusts. Translation: We will learn the fundamentals of how taxation impacts estate planning.

In preparation for our first two classes, your syllabus is attached. You are responsible for the first two assignments on our syllabus for the first week of classes.

Please purchase our required textbook as soon as possible:

Dodge, Gerzog, & Crawford, Federal Taxes On Gratuitous Transfers Law and Planning (1st ed. 2011)

See you on Monday, August 22, 1:00pm, in LB 202!
