First Assignment Fall 2022

Criminal Procedure I

LAW 621 Section 1

Jonathan P. Witmer-Rich

Assignment details

For the first day of class, please read Chapters 1-4 of the casebook (skim pages 8-17).

Our casebook is:

Simmons and Hutchins, Learning Criminal Procedure (West 2019 2d edition) (hardback)

OR

Simmons and Hutchins, Learning Criminal Procedure: Investigations (West 2019 2d edition) (paperback)

Make sure to buy the second edition. The hardback version of the textbook contains all of the materials for both Criminal Procedure I and Criminal Procedure II. The publisher, knowing that some students will only take one of those courses, also publishes the first part of the textbook (the materials for Crim Pro I) as a separate, smaller text (Learning Criminal Procedure: Investigations). If you are only going to take Crim Pro I, it is cheaper to buy the paperback. If you are going to take both Crim Pro I and II, it is cheaper to buy the hardback. (Note: This year I am not teaching Crim Pro II, but some of the other professors also use this book. Talk to me if you’re confused.)
