First Assignment Spring 2024

Criminal Procedure I

LAW 621 Section 01

Jonathan P. Witmer-Rich

Assignment details

For our first class, please read Chapters 1-4 from our textbook, Learning Criminal Procedure. You may skim pages 8-17, those are helpful context about criminal cases but not directly relevant to our course.

Our required textbook is:
-Simmons and Hutchins, Learning Criminal Procedure (West 2019 2d edition) (hardback)
OR
-Simmons and Hutchins, Learning Criminal Procedure: Investigations (West 2019 2d edition) (paperback)

The hardback version of the textbook contains all of the materials for both Criminal Procedure I and Criminal Procedure II. The publisher, knowing that some students will only take one of those courses, also publishes the first part of the textbook (the materials for Crim Pro I) as a separate, smaller text (Learning Criminal Procedure: Investigations). If you are only going to take Crim Pro I, it is cheaper to buy the paperback. If you are going to take both Crim Pro I and II, it is cheaper to buy the hardback.

Either way, make sure to get the second edition.
