CSU|Law Court Watch Program Featured in News 5 Cleveland Coverage

Cleveland State University's College of Law's Court Watch program was recently featured in a report from News 5 Cleveland examining how the Supreme Court of Ohio evaluates which cases it will review.

The Ohio Supreme Court Court Watch program, led by CSU|Law students, provides summaries of cases before the Court, with a focus on the Court's discretionary docket and the cases it chooses to hear, helping shed light on how decisions move through the judicial system. Through this work, students help make complex legal proceedings more accessible while gaining hands-on experience analyzing real appellate decisions.

The program was established by Former Ohio Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly '91, a CSU|Law alumnus. In the report, Professor Jonathan Witmer-Rich offers insight into how the Court approaches these cases and the broader importance of public understanding of judicial processes. The story highlights the program's role in promoting transparency and accessibility, particularly in cases involving discretionary appeals.

Through Court Watch, CSU|Law students engage directly with real-world legal questions while contributing to greater public awareness of how the justice system operates.

CSU|Law is proud to see its students, faculty, and alumni connected through work that enhances understanding of the legal system and supports the rule of law.
