Monday Morning Message 11.13.23 An Evening to Remember / Nominate for 2024 Hall of Fame

"Team CSU Law - congratulations on a wonderful night! ....The energy in the room was tremendous. I saw a couple who came to support an inductee and by the end of the night they said to me ‘what a great night. After tonight, if any of our kids said they wanted to go to law school, we would be excited.’ ” - Sarah Flannery '02

"My induction into the prestigious CSU College of Law Hall of Fame illustrates that hard work, intellect and opportunity will eclipse the adversity that life may bring. I vow not to rest on my laurels but instead work harder so that my selection inspires the next generation of CSU College of  Law graduates to realize that the key to success is to never be satisfied with being average." - Judge Michael John Ryan '96

“I’m truly humbled to be considered much less honored.  It was great to see some of my law school classmates who came to celebrate with me….Being included with so many great lawyers and judges is an honor that I will continue my entire career to live up to.” – Jim Sammon ‘94

“I am very grateful for my legal education at CSU. To this day, I apply that learning in virtually every aspect of my practice, business and even family life. I attended the night program which allowed me the flexibility of working full-time and studying at night.”–Gus Frangos ‘82

“I thought the entire Hall of Fame event was outstanding in every respect….All of my guests as well as everyone I spoke with that evening were very impressed with the entire affair…. kudos to the many staff members who no doubt work tirelessly to make the event come off beautifully. Special mention and thanks go to Holli, Keisha, Nicole and Elaine all of whom were extremely helpful, courteous and gracious in dealing with an old curmudgeon like me.”  - Bill Plesec ‘71

Our 6th Annual CSU|LAW Hall of Fame Celebration was a great success! This annual event continues to be our largest event of the year sponsored by and held at our law school, and it gives us the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for student scholarships and other critical student-focused needs.Over 500 supporters attended.

Joining us to honor our distinguished 2023 honorees were CSU President Laura Bloomberg and four distinguished members of our Hall of Fame who presented the awards – Judge Patricia Ann Blackmon ’75, Michael Gibbons ’82, Sarah Flannery ’02, and Jose Feliciano ’75.

Judge Clifton Newman ’76, one of our honorees, and Judge Pat Blackmon, spoke movingly about the positive impact that the Legal Career Opportunities Program (LCOP) had on their careers. The groundbreaking CSU|LAW LCOP program, created more than 50 years ago, is designed for promising students whose academic ability and potential is not sufficiently reflected by their test scores.

Below are the video honoring our 2023 inductees, the program book, and photos from the event.

Nominate Someone for the 2024 Hall of Fame

Our Hall of Fame was established in 2017 to honor the outstanding contributions to the success and prestige of our law school by distinguished alumni, community leaders with strong ties to our law school, and former deans, faculty and staff.

If you would like to nominate someone for the 2024 Hall of Fame, please submit your nomination by January 19, 2024.

Nominate Here: Nomination Form for CSU|LAW Hall of Fame. To ensure that we receive your nomination, please also email it (in the form of a Word document or in the text of an email) to Holli Goodman at h.goodmannull@csuohio.nulledu

For an explanation of the selection process go here: CSU|LAW Hall of Fame Selection Process. The general selection criteria are:

  • Nominee’s historic significance to the law school and/or the community, and/or
  • Nominee’s professional success and reputation, and/or
  • Nominee’s support of the law school through time, talent, and/or “treasure”

Please make sure that you address how the nominee fits at least two of the above criteria.

If the nominee has graduated within the past 15 years, the nominee will be considered for the Leader on the Rise Award. Each year, I appoint the Hall of Fame selection committee consisting of some members of the Hall of Fame, and a few current faculty and staff.  The 2024 Hall of Fame inductees and the 2024 Leader on the Rise will be announced early next year.
