Monday Morning Message 9.5.23 Our New JD Online Program

“Thank you for an exceptional start to my first year of law school!  I thoroughly enjoyed each part of my first residency weekend. The alumni dinner at the Synenberg’s was a special evening I will never forget.”

-JD Online Student

“I just wanted to say thank you for such an inspiring, gracious, generous, informative, and educational experience. The residency was so useful, and I feel like I really got to know everyone in a meaningful way. I just can't thank you enough for creating such a wonderful first law school experience. I am thrilled to be a student at CSU Law!! Oh, and the dinner was incredible!! Thank you so much for arranging and making that happen!!” - JD Online Student

For the first time in our law school history, we have a J.D. online part-time program that puts us at the forefront of the rapidly changing legal education landscape. Our CSU|LAW JD Online Part-Time Program (JDO) is one of the few accredited online J.D. programs in the country.

Our JDO is a rigorous program designed for affordability, flexibility, and access to a law degree for professionals without having to relocate, leave their families, or cease employment elsewhere. We have 40 online part-time JD students, 56% of whom are from out of state (16 different states). 76% are women; 93% took at least one year off between college and law school; their average age is 33; and 18 have one or more graduate degrees.

A critical component of the JDO is six in-person weekend residencies when the students get the opportunity to interact with their fellow part-time and full-time students, and our faculty, staff, and alumni. Our first weekend residency was August 18-20, and on Saturday evening some of our most distinguished and generous alumni hosted dinners for the students. On Sunday, the final day of the residency weekend, the students raved about the dinners and noted that the dinners were the highlight of the weekend!

Special thanks to each of our gracious alumni hosts: Judges Michelle and Brendan Sheehan, Judge Joan Synenberg and Roger Synenberg, Dana and Brett Barragate, Julie and Josh Crocker, Jennifer and Jim Sammon, Georgia Froelich and Russell O’Rourke, Ann Aber (and Bob Aber), Carter Strang (and Deedra Strang), Teresa Metcalf Beasley, Dennis Lansdowne, Steve Sozio, and Kelly Tompkins.

I also want to thank our team members who organized the successful weekend residency: Patricia Riley, our new Coordinator of Online Education, Jill Natran, and Associate Deans Brian Ray and Carolyn Broering-Jacobs who led the planning and execution, Professor Doron Kalir for coordinating the always popular Ohio Court of Appeals for the 8th District oral argument, and Professors Karin Mika, Heidi Robertson, and Jonathan Witmer-Rich for their teaching over the weekend!

Have a great day and a great week.
