Erica Kravchenko joins the Cleveland State University College of Law faculty as a Legal Writing Assistant Professor, bringing with her 15 years of practicing law primarily in the areas of bankruptcy law and business litigation.
Professor Kravchenko worked as an associate attorney at several law firms, including most recently, Bernstein-Burkley, P.C., where she specialized in business bankruptcy. Throughout her career, she also served as a clerk for several federal bankruptcy judges in the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern District of Ohio, where she honed her legal research and writing skills.
Professor Kravchenko obtained her juris doctor from the University of Akron where she served as a teaching assistant to several law professors and tutored torts. She attended the University of Vermont as an undergraduate, majoring in mathematics.
As a self-described life-long learner, Professor Kravchenko loves trying new things. This love of adventure led her to take up ballroom dancing and eventually to teach ballroom dance while competing on the professional level. Her enjoyment of teaching dance steps served as an important catalyst that launched her desire to combine her love of teaching with her knowledge and expertise in the law and pursue a professorship.
“The legendary dancer Fred Astaire said, ‘Some people seem to think that good dancers are born, but all the good dancers I have known are taught or trained,” explained Professor Kravchenko. “I happen to believe the same is true for legal writers.”
In addition to ballroom dancing, Professor Kravchenko loves to read, travel, and meet new people. She has volunteered with 3Rs Programs in both the Cleveland and Akron city schools.
