First Assignment Spring 2022

Products Liability

LAW 775 Section 1

Peter D. Garlock

Assignment details

The casebook for this course is Owen & Davis Products Liability and Safety: Cases and Materials (7th ed., 2015). You must have the 7th ed., and in hard copy.

For Tuesday, Jan 11th

Read in casebook:

(1) Introduction: 1-14, 19-top 27*

(2) Theories of Manufacturer Liability--Negligence: The Privity Obstacle, 41-top 50

Also, read the attached 3-page debate on the Uneasy or Easy Case for Product Liability

*You can skim much of the material in the Introduction. You needn't know all the statistics and other factoids presented. Many of the studies date from the 1970s, and the material therein may well be out of date. Probably the most interesting and relevant material is at 8-top 12 and 22-top 27.
