Assignment details
Welcome to Law, Inequality, and Everyday Life, a new seminar and legal writing course. I am excited to share the experience of this new course with you.
We are using non-traditional texts in this class that examine issues of inequality through a scholarly and literary lens. I will supplement these with articles as well as instruction relevant to our writing assignments. The books for the class are listed below.
- Meg-John Barker & Jules Scheele, Gender, a Graphic Guide (2019) (available at bookshop.org)
- Roxane Gay, Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body (2017)
- Safiya Umoja Noble, Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism (2018)
- Richard Rothstein, The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America (2017)
- Alice Wong, ed., Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century (2020)
There is no reading assignment for the first class. Please come prepared to engage in an open and productive conversation about this course and how we will conduct our sessions. I look forward to seeing you on Monday.
Note: Please check your CSU email on Monday, as I anticipate a classroom change. Thank you!
