Famed First Amendment advocate Mary Beth Tinker to present in Cleveland Friday, November 9. “Black armband” war-protester student of the 1960s will be featured speaker at Education Law Association’s 64th Annual Conference special event at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
As we near the 50th anniversary of that famous First Amendment ruling,you will have a chance to hear Mary Beth Tinker in person at a special session starting at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law’s Moot Court Room, 1801 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland. Following Tinker's presentation, she will participate in a panel discussion to include an attorney & First Amendment scholar, and a public school administrator to shed light on the legal and practical implications of actions by students and schools.
The event is open to the public at no charge and will be followed by a silent auction and reception, and donations to ELA (a 501-c-3) are greatly appreciated. Ohio attorneys will receive 2.25 CLE credits.

THE HONORABLE JOHN J. RUSSO is the Administrative and Presiding Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Ohio in Cuyahoga County, which serves the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Area. It is home to 1.2 million people (2010 census). Judge Russo has been unanimously elected by his colleagues to lead the Court every year since November 2013.
